What does it look like?

Apprenticeships are School to Work programs for grade 11 or 12 students that open the door to explore and experience apprenticeship skilled trade career opportunities through the Cooperative Education program (Co-op), become registered apprentices, and work towards becoming certified journey-persons in a skilled trade while completing their secondary school diploma.

  • Provides focused programming and skill development for students intent on expanding experience, skills, and contacts related to a specific work setting/trade

  • Promotes youth engagement and profile of community placement or employer as progressive and supportive
  • Develops future talent, skills, and employees

  • Links directly to curricular learning outcomes

  • May be particularly engaging for those with a specific employment-related skill and career

Employers and Community

  • OYAP partners will need to be aware of requirements and protocols for engaging with students and liaison with educational staff

Educators

  • Allows for close work with other partners/students to identify relevant OYAP opportunities that best meet student profile, interests, and circumstances
