Seeking Treasurer

We seek a volunteer to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer.

The Business & Education Partnership of Waterloo Region (“BEP Waterloo Region”) is a charity dedicated to helping local youth better understand and prepare for the world of work so that they can build their own paths to successful careers. We do this by creating career exploration, skill development, and networking opportunities between students in grades 7 to 12 and members of the local workforce. By guiding youth to make informed decisions about their future, we contribute to a happy, healthy community.

We are seeking a new Treasurer to join our board of directors for a 3 year term.

Responsibilities include:

General activities for all directors:

  • Identify opportunities for impact and shape organization’s future direction

  • Set and review policies that govern the organization

  • Ensure legal requirements and standards are met

  • Monitor the organization’s financial health and identify new sources of revenue

  • Build bridges with like-minded organizations

  • Evaluate ourselves for continuous learning and improvement

Treasurer-specific activities:

  • Aid in presentation of annual budget, audited financial statements and quarterly financial reporting in board meetings

  • Support staff in long term financial planning

  • Reconcile monthly bank statements

  • Meet with staff on a monthly basis to review and sign cheques for accounts payable

  • Qualities we seek in all directors

  • Passionate about empowering youth in our community

  • Committed to organizational excellence and continuous improvement

  • Willingness to be an ambassador for the BEP, working with the Executive Director to develop relationships in the community

  • Available to participate in quarterly board meetings (typically Tuesdays from 4-5:30pm)

  • Willingness to participate in additional committee work based on organizational needs and personal abilities

  • Willingness to commit to an initial term of three years

  • Experience in fundraising, board governance, not-for-profit finance and change management are strong assets

  • Prior experience serving on a board, including board leadership, is a welcome but not required

Qualities sought in our Treasurer:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

  • Knowledge of accounting in the context of a not-for-profit and registered charitable organization would be an asset
