Carly Kowalik

Program Coordinator

Bereaved Families of Ontario

Job Description

I am the first line of contact for people looking for grief support, whether it's for themselves or someone else. I answer the phone, send a lot of emails and organize paperwork. I coordinate the support programs we offer, communicating with the volunteers who run/facilitate the programs and the people who would like to participate. I debrief with and offer support to the volunteers after they facilitate a group. I meet with bereaved parents who are interested in participating in our groups. I train new volunteers. I help wherever I can with fundraising, memorial events, and grief education sessions.

Career Story

After high school, I knew I wanted to get into a job helping people, but I wasn't quite sure what that looked like. While studying in university, I worked retail and customer service jobs, and then eventually in the financial industry. None of these jobs were "filling me up" so I knew I had to find something I was passionate about. It was my volunteer roles that gave me experience in the field I'm in now and directly lead me to my current job.
