Career Story

After high school, I studied English Literature at University of Waterloo, Biblical Studies at Rosedale Bible College, and Education at Western University. Then I taught elementary school for a year in the States and high school English for four years in Indonesia. The longer I taught, the more I noticed my students were dealing with things like anxiety, relationship struggles, and other mental health concerns. I wanted to understand how I could help them.

When I returned to Canada, I earned my Master's degree in Theology: Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy at Wilfrid Laurier University. Since then I have worked for mental health agencies as a therapist for children, youth, families, and adults. I love working as a therapist because I learn something new every day, and it is rewarding to witness the courageous changes that people make in their lives.

Some of the best career advice I was given was to "Keep doing the training you need to do for the job you want next" and "Follow your curiosity." So far, that advice has led me to some very cool places, including starting my own private practice.
