Job Description
One part of my job is to help students develop their leadership skills. It is important to know your strengths and weaknesses so you can develop them. We have six workshops for students to participate in and learn more about themselves. The other important element is knowing and understanding the teammates you are working with. We will help you develop self awareness and team awareness.
The other part of my job is preparing and training peer mentors. It is beneficial to have a mentor. It is not about finding the "right" mentor for your whole life, but building a relationship with someone you can learn from. This is someone who will guide you, teach you, advise you and help you grow. By building this relationship you are going to have someone to ask questions or seek guidance when needed.

Career Story
I was always involved. I think of myself as a dabbler. I really enjoyed not being defined by one thing. So, when I went to the University of Waterloo, I started on the Track and Field team and realized that due to the time commitment, this would be the only extracurricular I would be able to balance. So I pivoted... in my undergrad I was involved with the Student Leadership Program, held 4 different positions on my student society, held 3 different positions in orientation, donned for 5 terms and played on lots of intramural teams.
Now, I am at the University of Waterloo working daily to improve the student experience. I am currently in student affairs in the field of leadership and mentorship. I always knew I wanted to help people - but I didn't know how.. but as of right now, it is in their interpersonal development and support their growth during their university experience.
