Explore Your Future

Explore Your Future is a series of FREE events to help Waterloo Region youth learn about some career options. While geared towards the early stage research needs of grade 7 to 10 students, it is open to any youth and family that are interested .

Note: This event takes place over Zoom. A link will be sent out to registered attendees about 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Creative Career Options

If you love your creative, artistic side, you may want to consider a job that uses your artistic talents. This session will give you an idea what to expect and tips on how to succeed. Anyone who is curious about this field of work should attend especially if you dream of being an artist, an illustrator, an author, a musician or costume designer.

Our panel shares how they put their creativity to work and make a living in the arts. They will describe the type of job they currently have and the journey they've taken since high school to get to this place in their career.

undefinedAdam Bowman - Professional musician: Drummer | Percussionist

As a touring musician, Adam has been heard on stages across five continents with artists such as Juno-award winners Kellylee Evans and Carlos Morgan, Canadian independent music trail blazer Ember Swift, improvising guru VINX and country-folk songstress Dawn Langstroth, among many others. In the studio, Adam has become the drummer of choice for producers and songwriters on a variety of recordings. 2015 saw Juno-nominations for Eccodek’s Singing in Tongues album, and Alysha Brilla’s Womyn album. In 2018, Alysha’s Rooted album received another nod.

As a teacher and facilitator, Adam teaches drum set at the University Of Guelph and works with several community organizations including the New Horizons Band for seniors, and the not-for-profit organization Art Not Shame working at the intersection of creative expression and mental wellbeing. He has spearheaded his own FunkBucket program, featuring bucket drumming experiences in high schools, universities, festivals, classes for adults and other private functions.

undefinedNicole Del Cul - Wardrobe Supervisor | Small Business Owner

Nicole Del Cul is a graduate of Ryerson University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Production.  She started working for Drayton Entertainment in 2007 as a Stitcher in the Wardrobe Department and became the Wardrobe Supervisor in 2009.  In that time Nicole has also been the Costume Designer for several of their productions, including 'Shear Madness 2019, 2018; Run For Your Wife 2014; Weekend Comedy 2013; Big Band Legends 2013, 2012; Bedtime Stories 2012; Italian Funerals and Other Festivities 2011; Dance Legends 2011, 2010. 

Nicole has also worked at the Banff Festival, Banff Alberta, in the Wardrobe department as a Stitcher and Dresser, as well as work on a number of events in the Toronto area. In 2017, she started her own tailoring business Loose Threads, which she continues to operate while still working for Drayton Entertainment.  

undefinedAndrew Kolb - Illustrator | Author

Andrew Kolb is a self-employed author, illustrator, and game designer. He's illustrated for brands like Target, Disney, and Funko doing things like picture books, board games, and everything in-between. He likes it a lot.

Agnes Niewiadomski - Artist | Educator | Director | Small Business Owner

Agnes Niewiadomski is a graduate of OCAD University’s Sculpture/Installation program where she earned her BFA. Since 2016 she has been running her small business, Mindful Makers, where she carries forward her mission of spreading the joy of maker culture to empower people with skills to lead life with a DIY ethic. Her company offers hands-on educational programming for both children and adults through day camps and workshops, as well as public festivals and events.

Each panelist will have 5 minutes to describe what they do and their career journey.

Then you get a chance to ask them questions about their jobs, the steps they took towards their goals and the career decisions they made along the way.
