What it's like to work in the construction industry

Legacy Builders

The Legacy Builders program provides young students with a fun, interactive, and informative session about what a career in the construction industry could look like. The purpose is to spark interest in the hands-on trades.

Due to popular demand, all new registrations will be added to a waitlist for more sessions in 2024.

The Legacy Builders program is offered by the Grand Valley Construction Association in partnership with BEP Waterloo Region and is currently booking for Grade 8 classes in the Waterloo Region and Waterloo Catholic DSBs for the 2023-24 school year. Schools can register one group of 30 per session, which runs 90-120 minutes.

Sessions include:

  • a discussion and introduction to trades by a construction professional

  • a personal story about how the presenter entered their trade and the ways in which they've grown their career in the trades

  • examples of different career paths one can take, including information sheets to take home to their families (i.e., a flow chart showing career options, estimated salaries, education required)

  • placing the students into small groups, explaining how to play the board game “The Jobsite” and giving them a time frame to complete the game with their group

  • prizes for the winning students

All available sessions are now full. At this time, any requests for the program will be added to a waitlist as we are hoping to add more sessions in 2024. Thanks for your understanding!
