Trades PD Visits P&H Milling Group
The Trades PD series features in-person professional development experiences and tours that educate and support local educators to better advise students about opportunities in the skilled trades and share insights into these sectors, in this case, flour milling.
This Fall, we were pleased to partner with the incredible community partners at the P&H Milling Group, a division of Parrish & Heimbecker Limited, and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board on this amazing opportunity. The day began with Bruce MacIntyre, President & COO, addressing the group and sharing the P&H Milling story, an insightful overview of the company and insights into career opportunities in this industry.
“P & H offers a great opportunity for young people. We are looking to get people who are interested in learning a trade and we will train them.” - Bruce MacIntyre, President and COO
Next, the group shuttled over to the Cambridge flour mill for a fascinating plant tour showcasing everything from milling, the lab and packaging. We learned about the process from start to finish – shipments of grain are received, cleaned, tempered, ground, sifted, and eventually packaged. The mill in Cambridge is the oldest continuously operating business in the region, with operations dating back to 1807.
Across Canada, P&H employs approximately 1500 employees, with about 450 working in the Milling division. The flour milled by P&H can be found in various consumer products from Tim Hortons, to Cobs, and Pizza Hut. A special thank you to the P&H Milling executive team and Cambridge Mill operations team.
