Career Story

I completed my high school in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where I wrote the British IGCSE and A Levels exams. Most of my subjects were math and science related; however, I also did computer science, business, accounting, and Arabic. I usually scored the highest marks in my school and in Saudi Arabia.

I decided to move to Canada for greater education and work opportunities. So I obtained my Bachelor's degree at Western University in Honors Specialization in Genetics and Biochemistry, where I was able to take various different electives that diversified my educational experience.

My first job was working as a Residence Advisor in 3rd year and I did it for 2 more years after that. I took a gap year between 3rd and 4th year to complete an internship in a DNA sequencing facility in London, ON (The London Regional Genomics Centre). I worked some other jobs like being a sports official and production worker in the summers.

My thesis project sparked my interest in the field of personalized medicine so I decided I should pursue a MD/PhD degree. However, I wanted to gain Life Sciences industry experience in a relevant field to enrich my experience and set me up well for integration of academia and industry later on in my career.

The role of Bioinformatics Specialist is teaching me lots of valuable knowledge and skills for my projected career goals.
