Executive Recruitment Consultant

Artemis Canada

Job Description

I describe my job like being a guidance counsellor for adults. I use my background in teaching and guidance along with my experience working in tech to help companies find the right people for important roles. I’m an executive recruiter, which means I talk to lots of different companies and lots of people who might be a good fit for them. My job is to learn what each company needs, learn what each person wants, and help match them together... kind of like career matchmaking!

Career Story

My career path has been very non-linear, but that has been one of the best parts of it. After high school, I went straight to university—not because I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but because I wanted to learn, explore subjects I enjoyed, and gain independence. I studied English and French at Laurier, spent a semester studying French in France, and worked at a summer camp in Switzerland—all experiences that taught me adaptability, confidence, and how much I enjoy working with people.

I went on to teacher’s college at Queen’s and taught Grade 7–8 Language Arts at a Canadian school in Sint Maarten. Teaching abroad helped me develop strong communication skills and navigate different cultures. When I returned to Canada, I continued exploring: I worked, traveled in Asia, earned my yoga certification, and eventually joined Blyth Academy in Waterloo. Over several years, I progressed from administration to guidance counselling, then to leading our virtual middle school, and eventually became Principal at 32. I even spent time in Florence, Italy, as an Interim Principal and Guidance Counsellor. These roles taught me leadership, problem-solving, and how much I enjoy supporting people through major decisions.

When my school closed in 2022, I saw it as an opportunity to pivot into the tech industry. Through (so much!) networking and curiosity, I landed an Implementation Manager role at a GovTech company, Bonfire/Euna Solutions, then moved into Customer Success to build long-term relationships with clients. Eventually, I was recruited into executive search, where I now work as an Executive Recruiter. It’s a role that combines everything I’ve learned so far—teaching, relationship-building, communication, and career guidance in the tech sector.

My path hasn’t been traditional, but being open to new opportunities and focusing on transferable skills has allowed me to build a career I genuinely love. Every step, even the unexpected ones, has contributed to the skills I use today. Looking forward to seeing what the next 5-10 years will bring!
