Career Story

After high school I completed my Child and Youth Work diploma at Mohawk College. I then worked at numerous groups homes and agencies including child welfare and children's mental health. After 5 years I went back to school - I applied to University of Waterloo and was accepted into the undergraduate Social Development Studies program. I was exempted from a number of courses because of my CYW education so it took me 2 years to complete. From there, I applied to the Bachelor of Social Work program (1 year) and worked as a Social Worker in Adult Mental Health in the community for the Assertive Community Treatment Team. In 2010 I returned to school (Laurier) for the 1-year Advanced Standing program. I returned to ACTT for a few months, applied to the hospital's Specialized Mental Health program and was hired in 2012. I've worked in this program for 8 years altogether. I've also worked at University of Waterloo in the Campus Wellness department providing case management for students with complex mental health concerns.
