Deputy City Manager - Community Development

City of Cambridge

Job Description

I help run local government. We plan our community and neighbourhoods by planning where homes should be built and where people would work. This includes roads and trails to help people get to the different places within our city; and, parks and recreation facilities to help people stay active and involved.

We also need to build and maintain water pipes in the ground so that you have water for the taps in your home. We install and maintain sewers so that when you flush the toilet it goes somewhere. Many different skills and types of people are needed to help do all these things.

Career Story

I studied business at university, but unfortunately was having trouble finding a suitable career and so went back to study engineering. I started in local government as a building official, inspecting construction sites to ensure they were built safely. I then moved into more management type roles. Now I am responsible for many aspects and areas of running a city.
