Career Story
After finishing high school, I completed a 3-year bachelor's degree (Honours) program majoring in Zoology and then I did my master's in Zoology with a specialization in Genetics. I had plans to do a Ph.D. and eventually having a career in research and university teaching - however, certain unexpected developments in my personal life forced me to rethink my career plans. After considerable deliberation, I decided to study Human Resources Management, and in 2013, I graduated from Conestoga College with distinction, with a postgraduate diploma in HR Management. Shortly after that I obtained my CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation and started working as a Recruitment Specialist for a staffing firm.
I worked in the staffing industry for a few years as a recruiter and helped people find jobs in a variety of different fields. I have interviewed and recruited people for all levels of positions in different industries - starting from entry-level office clerks and labourers for the manufacturing lines in a factory to Senior IT Director of a Fortune-500 corporation.
I realized that I really enjoy the candidate-development or candidate-coaching aspect of my job, so after working in the recruitment industry for a few years, I decided to start my own career consultancy business. I have been self-employed as a Career Counsellor/Advisor and Resume Writer since 2018 and I absolutely love it! Last year I earned the CES (Certified Employment Strategist) and CCS (Certified Career Strategist) designations offered by Career Professionals of Canada, and this year, I have plans to upgrade my skills further.
