Parent-Child Resource Centre Manager

The Salvation Army

Job Description

I have a job that I love and everyday I get to play with children of all ages and meet many people from different countries. For the past 34 years, I have managed the busy Parent Child Resource Centre providing a wide range of programming for parents/caregivers and their children, including early literacy program, parenting support/advice and nutrition classes. We empower caregivers and children in practical ways in a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment. Our mission is to strengthen local families to maximize their capacity to raise healthy children and contribute to their community.

For pre-school children some of the programs we run include: Early Learning, Baby Song, Toddler Wonders, Nutritious Kitchen, Building Blocks, Family Math, Parent Support, Follow the Leader, Play Safe, Be Safe, School Readiness.

I also manage a twice-weekly community drop-in for parents/caregivers & children to have playtime together in our gym and playroom. We also run PA Day Drop-In days for school age children.

I also facilitate anger management leadership courses for kids ages 8-12 & 13-16yrs.

I love having teenagers volunteer in our programming to let them see what they can contribute to the programming and watch them grow as leaders. Do you know what you want to do when you get older? If not, volunteering is the perfect & safest way to figure those things out. Who knows? Maybe volunteering at a place "outside your box" maybe the best thing you have ever done for yourself.

I believe that we all can learn everyday from each other, so let's be our best so we can do our best!
