Job Description

Police Officer - however not just being a police officer. Many jobs and opportunities within one career.

I would describe it like I laid out below, however expanding on each job I performed in the last 23 years.

Career Story

  • graduated grade 13 - went to Conestoga College - took Law and Security Administration (now called Policing Foundations).
  • graduated from College - worked part-time as a Loss Prevention Officer at Zehrs and Zellers - took this job to gain experience writing reports, making notes, enforcing the criminal code, making arrests, performing searches/seizure which were transferable skills for Policing.
  • became an Auxiliary Constable, which is a volunteer position. Learned more about policing. This was with Waterloo Regional Police Service.
  • was hired as a Special Constable to work in the Kitchener Court house.
  • did this job for 2 years before being hired as a Police Constable with the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
  • I have worked as a Patrol Constable, a Detective Constable in the Domestic Violence Unit, Major Case Unit (now called Special Victims Unit), Human Resources as a recruiter, at the new Court House, became a Sergeant and returned to Patrol. I'm currently on a project where I provide expert subject matter as we build our new Kitchener Detachment (Central Division) and working with the Region of Waterloo and a consultant team.
  • I'm in my 23rd year with the WRPS.
  • throughout my career I have continued my education taking university courses and policing related courses. I'm currently working on a project management certificate through the University of Waterloo.
